So this is my review for the As I Am Curling gel. So As I Am was created by (or backed) by Dr. Ali N Syed who is the same mastermind behind Avlon Industries who's brands include Affirm®, FiberGuard®, KeraCare® and MoisturColor® brands. So after I learned this, I knew I had to try this line. After visiting Sally's I realized that this line is a bit expensive but I still had to try.
So As I Am claims
Contains natural ingredients
Defines coils and curls
As I Am Curling Jelly Curl and Coil Definer is a wonderful Curling Jelly for hi-definition coils and curls, with buoyancy and vibrancy!
Reduces shrinkage and enhances stretch. Locks in precious moisture as you harmonize your coils. Formulated with nature's best moisturizers and curl boosters.
Whatever your hair length, your style will be distinctly beautiful and will hold its definition for days. Contains natural ingredients your hair loves and none of the ingredients it doesn't.
In my opinion this jelly gives a very tight define curl. The curl definition remains very tight and define for about three days. Unlike the curls unleash where I have more frizz and a loose curl pattern as the days go by with As I am, my 2nd day hair looks almost as good as 1st day hair. There is one huge complaint I have with this jelly. The 'gel-cast'. The flakes. You absolutely HAVE to use the leave-in conditioner that this line sells just to reduce the flakes. When I use any other leave in, I cannot leave the house. When I use the 'As I Am' leave-in the flakes are greatly reduced and I will find occasional gel clumps which I pick out. That is one major setback for this gel. The gel also does leave a crunch to your hair and being my hair is short, I do not know if I can scrunch it out or not. Otherwise, the hair remains very moisturized, shiny and the hair looks absolutely beautiful with all the curls and coils.
My Process? I Co-wash with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner. I applied liberal amount of As I Am Leave-in Conditioner and applied the jelly then air dried my hair.
